Get Busy
(free milk after sumo practise. Yay?)
'What has Kris been up to?' you probably ask yourself most days. 'Why has he not written a blog for so long' you undoubtedly ponder to yourself before going to sleep. Well I'm here to cram another mediocre packet of information into your brain detailing the last two weeks. I've been on Summer holidays for quite some time now but for the last two weeks I've been adventuring with Sally who had decided to come and visit me from Australia.
She arrived at quite a decent time of the day so I asked her to jump onto a bus from the Airport to Utsunomiya which is the closest big city in my area. I probably should have gone to the airport but it's suuuuch a long drive and the bus is handy, cheap and easy! When she arrived there was a festival so instead of going home to rest we looked around for a while and continued the festivities that night in a bar in my home town and consequently we woke up feeling like shit the next morning.
I probably don't need to detail everything we did in chronological order but I'll give you all some highlights!
- Sally throwing up in a supermarket carpark after the aforementioned bar experience provoked by a spinning ride thing (those things HURT!)
- Feeding huge fish that make this gross sucking noise as they come to the surface. There were heaps of them and this damn duck kept trying to eat the bread. (Are fish supposed to eat bread?)
- Fireworks over a beautiful mountain lake. It was raining but we found this amazing place under cover and the watched the fireworks explode over the lake right in front of us.
- Catching the bullet train for the first time
- Seeing some awesome sumo wrestlers in action. We met some of them at the bar on the first night and went to watch them practise a few days later. They were nice enough I guess ... they really don't smile much though.
- Exploring Tokyo together! Shibuya, Shinjuku, Harajuku, Asakusa, Akihabara, Ueno, and tonnes of places in between.
- Tokyo tower and Sallys minor freak out from the height.
- Waterfalls in Nikko and that SNAKE.
- Otawara Festival even though it poured with rain and then fireworks from my bedroom window afterwards.
We took some pictures but we didn't really take that many for some reason so there might be some gaps in our memory but I think we both had a really good time! It was nice to be able to show off my home town, where I work, my friends and all that sort of thing to someone. Sally should be home in Australia at the moment and I must leave soon to go pick up David from the airport who is also staying for two weeks!
Busy busy.
